Holstein
cow with clinical signs of Johne's disease
Clinical
signs of Johnes disease include: diarrhea and rapid weight
loss in spite of a good appetite. Notice that this cow does not
look sick. Cattle with Johnes disease typically eat well,
have no fever, and so not act sick. There appears to be no breed
predisposition. Johne's disease is as common in Holstein cattle
as in other dairy breeds. The disease is less common, however, in
beef breeds of cattle. This is likely due to differences in husbandry
practices between dairy and beef cattle.
